I. ABOUT 27TH SEA GAMES 2013

  • The 27th SEA Games holds the longest hosting time interval of the games, spanning a time of 44 years. The last time Myanmar hosted the games was in 1969.
  • The new capital city of Myanmar (Burma) - Nay Pyi Taw will host most of the sporting events as well as the opening and closing ceremonies of the 27th SEA Games.
  • Below is the 27th SEA Games Logo. The shape of Myanmar Map depicts a sprinter who is in the energetic momentum. It represents the shaped-map of Myanmar and the color of the Myanmar's flag - yellow, green and red. It holds 10 rings which represents the ten members and participating nations of SEA Games.

  • This is the only SEA Games edition that held some events prior to the opening of the games. Usually, football is the only sport that is played before the game but this time, water polo, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoeing, chinlone, football, futsal, pencak silat, sepak takraw, wrestling and wushu are to be played too.
  • Floorball is the demonstration sport for the 27th SEA Games.

  • The largest delegation is the host Myanmar.
  • The draw for group of team sports was held on November 6, 2013. Philippines withdrew from the men's football tournament while  Brunei also withdrew in men's futsal.
  • The first set of medals was given in the sport of Chinlone on December 4. The first event (The Linking - Women's Event) was won by Myanmar's team.

III. CONTROVERSIES
  • Bomb blasts and riots from the Burmese football fans were the concerns of other participating countries. Tight security during the games is to be imposed.
  • Exclusion of some Olympic sports became the early controversy prior to the SEA Games.
  • Myanmar's plan (manipulate) to top the overall medal rankings intimidated some countries especially the very affected and non-hopeful Philippines Olympic/Sports officials that decided to send "lean but mean" athletes. (Sorry for the terms but it reflects from their actions)
